Mason County Eastern narrowly edged Hesperia Friday, 3-2, in a high-drama pitcher's duel in the district semifinals in Custer.
Neither
team scored until the sixth inning. MCE got a bunt single to get things
going, then took advantage of four consecutive Hesperia errors to score
three times.
The Panther offense launched a rally with one
out in the seventh, drawing consecutive walks and then a hit batter.
Sarissa Conkle lofted a bloop single into the outfield to score a run,
and Madesyn Bolles drove in another run with a fielder's choice, but MCE
was able to escape the jam.
Bolles had two of Hesperia's
three hits and also drew a walk. Gabby Tanner allowed no earned runs on
three hits, striking out five.
