Reeths-Puffer baseball loses low-scoring battle to Greenville in districts

Reeths-Puffer lost a tough battle to Greenville Saturday in the district semifinals, 3-1, to end its season.
Each team scored once in the first inning, the Rockets via a RBI single from Brendan Guikema. While R-P continued to hang in there throughout the game, it never scored again as Greenville pitcher Brady Beckett limited its bats.
The Yellowjackets went ahead for good with a third-inning run and added one more in the sixth, both by stealing home with a runner on first base.
Guikema and Paul Smith got two hits each for the Rockets. Guikema battled on the mound, allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Tyler Sykes pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings after Guikema reached his pitch count limit.
