Whitehall ended its season by hosting the Division 4 regional meet Friday, scoring six points and finishing in sixth place.
Four Viking flights won a match apiece to score those points, including each of the top flights at singles and doubles, and two others scored a point by advancing by default. Wyatt Burger scored a first-round win in straight sets to advance to take on No. 2 seed Levi Adema of Calvin Christian in round two. Burger played well against Adema and extended the match to a tiebreaker in the second set, but fell short 6-2, 7-6(3). The Vikes' top doubles pair, Remington Whelpley/Lukas McKee, romped to a 6-0, 6-0 win in round one before falling to No. 3 seed Gavin Cohoon/Ethan Blough of Ludington in the second round.
No. 3 singles player Jones McDowell came the closest of any Viking flight to reaching the regional semifinal. After an easy win in the first round, McDowell snagged the first set against No. 3 seed Andy McGivney of Grand Rapids Catholic Central, but MGivney rallied to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Scout Freiheit advanced to the second round by default at No. 4 singles before being eliminated by GRCC's Paul Huynh, the No. 2 seed.
In doubles play, Jonathan Roberge/Jack Koegel won a first-round match at the No. 2 flight and were competitive against Ludington's Hudson Borema/Sam Reisterer in round two before falling short, 6-3, 6-3. No. 3 doubles pair Tanner Osmun/Liam Nicholas advanced by default before bowing out to Ludington's Patrick Hart/Owen Henke 6-1, 6-3. No. 4 doubles pair Barrett Chapman/Alden Johnsen received a first-round bye and lost to Grand Rapids West Catholic's No. 4 seeded pair Grant Truszkowski/Caleb Ophoff in the second round.
