Whitehall's teams each ran well Tuesday at the Ludington jamboree, the West Michigan Conference Lakes' first event of the season. The Viking boys finished in second place, with the girls team in third.
Montague's boys team placed fifth, and the Wildcat girls were sixth.
Viking senior star Bobby Jazwinski dominated the boys' race, winning by over a minute and posting a time of 15:43.7. Rex Pumford also placed in the top 10, coming in sixth with a time of 17:29.6.
Also for the Vikings, Ian Dennis finished 22nd (18:41.0), Alex Winczewski was 30th (19:32.2) and Scout Freiheit was 31st (19:34.4).
Gabrielle Chevez led Whitehall's girls team with a fifth-place finish and a time of 22:29.0. The Vikings' Madison Heuschele was ninth in a time of 22:53.6. Reese Hesse took 15th place with a time of 24:11.7. Whitehall's final two scorers were Kassie Sapp (20th, 24:59.7) and Vivian Hesse (21st, 25:52.4).
Montague had two top-10 boys finishers, with Wesley Mair finishing fifth (17:15.6) and Nolan Kessler placing ninth (17:42.5). Jonathan Mueller finished 32nd for the Wildcats (19:44.0), Brock Hunter was 39th (20:29.8) and Carson Jasick was 49th (21:37.9).
Brightyn Minchak finished 27th to lead the Wildcat girls, posting a time of 26:23.3. Wildcat scorers also included Erica Hansen (30th, 26:55.4), Amelia Liskey (34th, 28:19.6), Gemma Lorson (35th, 28:58.9) and Arianna Mueller (43rd, 31:30.8).
