Hart's teams won impressively Tuesday at the West Michigan Conference Lakes' first jamboree of the season, hosted at West Shore Community College.
The Pirate boys dominated their race, with eight of the top 16 finishers and a score of 38 points - 41 ahead of second-place Whitehall. The girls edged Ludington by two points, 42-44.
Hart had third-place finishers in each race to top individual performers. Silas Ackley was third for the boys with a time of 17:10.5, and Natalie Rosema led the Hart girls with her own third-place finish, posting a time of 21:14.1.
Ackley's finish was just the start for the Pirates, as Timothy Wolff was close behind with a time of 17:13.1, good for fourth place. Trevor Vander Kodde finished eighth in a time of 17:35.1, and Carson Ackley was 11th in a time of 17:59.3. Owen VanderVlucht was 12th in a time of 18:01.6 to close Hart scoring. Grant Ackley placed 13th, Alex Schiller was 15th and Mason Opalewski was 16th.
Alaina Schaner finished fourth for the Pirate girls in a time of 22:23.8, and Luisa VanderZwaag took 10th (23:18.0). Also scoring for Hart were Bryn Riley in 11th (23:20.6) and Emma Miller in 14th (23:37.6).
"The girls were tenacious to the end on the challenging West Shore Community College hilly course," Hart coach Calvin Ackley said.
