Hart softball splits a pair of lopsided games with Onekama

Each team scored a lopsided win when Hart and Onekama faced off Monday. The Pirates fell 18-1 in game one but stormed back for a 19-1 win in game two.
The Pirates (15-11) wasted no time exploding for 10 runs in the first inning of the nightcap. Incredibly, the first 12 batters for Hart reached base. Reese Smith had two different run-scoring doubles in the first, bringing across a total of three runs. Sydney Bateson, Leah Walker, Kearnee Short and Caydence Bateson all drove in runs with singles.
The second inning brought seven more runs for Hart, including RBI singles by Makenna Carrier, Caydence Bateson and Smith and a two-run double by Walker.
Smith went 4-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored, and Walker had three hits with four RBI. Carrier and Caydence Bateson each got two hits. Smith picked up the win, allowing only two hits and striking out five in three innings.
It was the Portagers who won big in the opener, scoring multiple runs in all five innings of play. Caydence Bateson drove in Hart's only run with a double, and the team only got one other hit off Onekama ace Hailey Hart.
