Montague soccer pitches shutout against Manistee

MONTAGUE — Montague used a quick two-goal surge in the first half of Monday's game against Manistee to defeat the Mariners 3-0 in West Michigan Conference play.
Montague improved to 7-5-1 and 4-3-1 in WMC games. The 'Cats are playing strong soccer of late and have a 4-1-1 mark in their last six contests.
The Wildcats broke the scoring seal on the game with two goals in the span of two minutes close to the midpoint of the first half. Ava Crow got Montague on the board, and Emily Earnest followed with her own goal. The Wildcats launched several other attacks on the net, though Manistee was able to limit further damage.
Lilly Rice added a third goal for Montague, which sealed the win. Keeper Sara Zorrilla recorded the shutout in goal.
