Shelby continued its sizzling work with the bats Monday in a doubleheader sweep of White Cloud, 11-2 and 14-5.
The
Tigers (12-2) immediately responded when White Cloud put two runs on
the board in the top of the first inning, tying the score in their half
of the inning and grabbing the lead for good in the second. Jayna
Burmeister's RBI triple was the highlight of the first inning.
Shelby
took advantage of eight Indian errors in game one, and Burmeister
pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11. She also went 3-for-4.
Daniella Zarraga also got three hits, and Hali Hayes had two. Izzy
Rudat had a two-run triple.
The Tigers took command early in
game two and scored 10 runs in the first three inning. Jordan Wolting's
RBI single opened the scoring, and Zarraga followed by doubling her in.
Burmeister's two-run double highlighted a four-run second, and her
bases-loaded triple spearheaded a four-run third.
Burmeister
had four hits, all for extra bases, and six RBI. Hayes and Emma Stovall
had two hits each. Wolting pitched five no-hit innings, allowing no
earned runs and striking out seven before Burmeister finished things off
with a shutout inning.
