Shelby's offense was overwhelming Wednesday against West Michigan
Conference foe Manistee, firing 42 shots and converting five of them in a
5-0 shutout.
The Tigers (4-1-1, 3-1 WMC) limited Manistee to only one shot on goal, which Brylee Friedman saved to pick up the clean sheet.
Annabelle
Stark opened the scoring for Shelby, taking an assist from Charlee
Friedman and finishing the play, and Kylie Brown soon followed with a
goal that was inadvertently knocked in by a Mariner defender. Zoe
Cornaby gave Shelby a 3-0 halftime lead with a goal of her own, with
Brown assisting.
The Tigers didn't let up in the second half,
but Manistee was able to keep them from adding on most of the half.
Nicole Ortiz, though, put in a goal off Brown's second assist of the
game, and Michelle Peterson scored shortly thereafter to close out the
scoring. Kylee Hanson assisted that goal.
"The team
responded well from the tough road loss on Monday, and I'm excited to
take this momentum into game three of the week, vs Kent City on Friday,"
Shelby coach Joe Gorton said. "We were able to control this game
right from the opening whistle. Shelby played with great spacing, kept
their heads up, and shared the ball well."
