Hart finished fourth among nine Division 3 teams to compete at Saturday's Grand Rapids West Catholic Invitational, while Shelby earned the top spot among Division 4 teams at the meet.
The Pirates narrowly outscored Shelby, 666.6-646.92, at the meet.
Hart might have finished even better but for 18 penalty points in round two, a round that tripped up several other competing schools as well. Those struggles countered very strong Hart rounds in round one and three. The Pirates had 208.6 points in the first round, ranking fourth, and totaled 275.6 points in the final round, which also ranked fourth.
Shelby did not get charged any penalty points in round two, which gave the Tigers a 191.52 score that compared favorably with many other competing teams. The Tigers also cleared the 200-point mark in round one and had 254 points in the final round.
