Montague shut out Orchard View in the second half Friday and came away with a hard-fought 19-14 victory over the Cardinals on homecoming night.
Montague (2-2, 2-1 West Michigan Conference Lakes) trailed 16-14 at halftime, taking the lead on a Jonah Henderson 25-yard field goal in the third quarter. The Wildcats added a safety late in the third when a snap sailed over the head of Cardinal quarterback Kenyon McCauley and into the end zone.
Neither team scored from there as the defenses dominated amid cold and wet conditions.
Cole Moss led the Wildcat offense with 97 yards and a touchdown, and Dane Roesler added 42 yards and a score. Max Dyer ran for 38 yards and threw for 26.
