WHITEHALL — The Whitehall City Council unanimously approved a bid from Windemuller Electric for $33,900 to install a new well pump generator at City Well 6 during its regular meeting Tuesday.
Windemuller's was the sole bid. City Manager Dan Tavernier said a Drinking Water Asset Management grant covered the cost of removal of the previous generator, enabling the city to save some money.
Tavernier also reported that work on Alice Street was scheduled to begin that day. The city announced on Facebook Wednesday that the street will be closed to through traffic from the Division Street to Peterson Road intersections through Aug. 28 to allow for the road's completion.
Also in the city manager's report was that a streetlight that was knocked out by the rain and wind storms in June 2024 is being replaced on Gee Street. Tavernier noted that a couple of citizens were expressing objection to the light's replacement for reasons unknown.
Council member Bryan Mahan, who was part of the White Lake Maritime Festival himself through his band The Edukators, which performed Saturday night, praised the work done to bring the festival back and said the weekend often felt like the 1990s heyday of the previously annual festival.
"It was a really fun time to be part of Whitehall, Montague and White Lake," Mahan said. "It was a wonderful experience all around."
