Hart senior Chase Lorenz capped his career with a strong
performance at Saturday's Division 3 state finals meet in Kent City,
earning a pair of all-state medals.
Lorenz placed second in
the 200-meter dash, breaking his own school record in the event with a
mark of 21.68 seconds - just 0.27 of a second away from the top spot.
Lorenz also took fifth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.87
seconds - 0.12 of a second from the win.
Lorenz's performance
produced all of Hart's points at the state meet, though the 3,200-meter
relay team came close to an all-state medal as well, finishing ninth.
Jack Slotman, Grant Ackley, Mason Opalewski and Trevor Vander Kodde
posted a time of 8:19.99.
Also for the Pirate boys, Silas
Ackley finished 22nd in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:08.5, and
the 1,600 relay team of Jaxson Oomen, Slotman, Luke VanderWilk and
Lorenz finished 23rd (3:35.3).
Joselyn Flores posted the best
finish for the Pirate girls, taking 10th place in the high jump with a
mark of 4-11. Hart's 3,200-meter relay team of Alaina Schaner, Emma
Miller, Martina Saenz and Natalie Rosema finished 12th (10:17.8).
Also
for the girls' team, the 400 relay team of Flores, Ellie Gross, Addison
Hain and Rosema was 15th (51.74); Shelbie Choponis placed 20th in
discus (103-1); and Hain was 22nd in both the 100 (12.78) and 200
(26.81).
