Next week, the White Lake area will celebrate July 4, and this one is special, as it will mark the semiquincentennial of the United States - its 250th anniversary.
Due to the sky-high demand for fireworks shows for the July 4 holiday creating cost issues, the White Lake Fireworks Committee will host the area's fireworks show Friday, July 3 at dusk. The fireworks will be viewable from throughout the causeway bridge area in both Whitehall and Montague.
The celebration will continue Saturday, July 4 with the annual parade, which will begin at 10 a.m. with over 90 festive entries. The parade will follow its traditional route from the Whitehall City Hall to the Montague City Hall and will include dozens of floats, community groups, fire trucks, police cars, classic cars and much more.
A limited number of White Lake Area 4th of July commemorative buttons are available to the public, first come first served, while supplies last. These buttons are typically reserved for parade participants, but there are extras this year. Pick yours up at the White Lake Area Chamber & Visitors Bureau offices during business hours, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.
