Reeths-Puffer advanced seven events to the state meet from Friday's
Division 1 regional in Zeeland. The Rocket boys finished seventh in the
meet, while the girls' team placed 13th.
The Rockets won two
regional titles at the meet. Mason Darke won the 300-meter hurdles and
set a new season best time of 38.35 seconds. Darke did not compete in
the 110 hurdles but had already earned early qualification to state in
that event.
Marvin Moore was R-P's other regional champ,
winning the 400-meter dash in a personal best time of 49.03 seconds.
R-P's track and field Facebook page said Moore's time put him in second
place all-time at the school.
London Rankin picked up a state
spot by finishing second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.08
seconds. Evan McHugh took third in pole vault with a mark of 13-3 and
Jamichael Williams reached state in high jump with a mark of 6-2. Though
Williams finished 10th, he joined McHugh in hitting the qualifying
standard to reach state.
The Rockets' 800-meter relay team of
Rankin, Emcee McLaurin, Moore and Ethan Rolewicz also qualified for
state, finishing second (1:28.7).
R-P's Makayla Disselkoen
will represent the girls at state after placing fourth in high jump with
a personal best 5-2, hitting the qualifying standard. The Rockets'
Jersi Bilek did not reach state, but did set a school record in the
800-meter run with a time of 2:19.2, placing fifth. She barely missed
the state qualifying standard of 2:19.
McHugh added two other
regional medals for the Rocket boys. He placed fourth in the 110 hurdles
(15.89) and seventh in the 300 hurdles (41.65).
