The White Lake Community Library will host a program Wednesday, June 10 that will allow individuals with cognition challenges like Alzheimer's disease or dementia to experiment with self-expression through painting.
No experience is necessary and the program is free to participants, as well as partners and caregivers. Registration is required at wlclib.org.
Participants will discuss a theme, and photos will be provided for inspiration. Upon the paintings' completion, artists will be asked to describe their artwork and responses will be written down. The emphasis is on having fun.
Nancy Armitage will be facilitating. Nancy was the Memories in the Making Coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association of southeastern Wisconsin for nine years. Since moving to Whitehall six years ago, her passion for the arts and dementia inspired her to start a chapter of SPARK!, a program for those with memory loss and their care partner (www.sparkprograms.org) at the Muskegon Art Museum, and was instrumental in the establishment of the first Memory Cafe in Muskegon.
