Shelby continued its great start to the season Saturday by sweeping
a doubleheader against Western Michigan Christian, 11-1 and 15-2.
The
Tigers (12-3) scored in six of the seven innings in game one to cruise
to the win, adding errorless defense in the field to support their three
pitchers. Leighton Belasco got the win, striking out six in 3 2/3
innings and allowing only two hits and a run.
Chase Simon
opened the scoring with a RBI double in the first inning, and Evan
Waller followed with a run-scoring single. Simon had a big game, going
3-for-4. Cam Smith smashed a sixth-inning solo home run. Waller and
Trevor Weiss each picked up two hits, including a RBI triple for Weiss.
The
Tiger bats kept pouring it on in game two, scoring in all five innings
to win by mercy rule. Belasco and Weiss each drove in runs with singles
during a three-run first, and the Tigers put the game away with a
six-run fourth.
Weiss and Michael Regeczi each got two hits
for the Tigers, and Jaden Furman drove in two runs and scored twice.
Simon and DayDay Garcia also scored two runs each. Axel Moritz got the
win, striking out three and allowing two hits and no earned runs in four
innings.
