Pentwater finished fourth in its season-opening meet, the Mason County Eastern Invitational, Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons were competing against Mesick, Union and the host Cardinals.
The Falcons earned wins in two events, one each in the boys' and girls' meets. Logan Fatura took first place in the discus with a throw of 128-5, his second-best career mark. The girls' 800-meter relay team also picked up first place. The team of Lila Merrill, Emma Werkema-Grondsma, Lexi Smith and Lauren Davis won the race in a time of 2:07.4.
Smith also finished in second place in the high jump with a mark of 4-6, and Bailey Case was second in the 800 with a time of 3:16.2. Davis added a runner-up finish in the 300 hurdles, with a time of 1:00.7.
Chase McGuire-VanGills also earned a second-place finish in the boys' meet, posting a time of 25.47 seconds in the 200 meters.
"The team set the tone for an exciting season ahead," Pentwater coach Erika Fatura said. "For many athletes, this was their very first meet and they rose to the occasion with confidence, determination, and a drive to keep improving."
