The National Day of Prayer, observed annually on the first Thursday in May and designated by the United States Congress, invites Americans to “turn to God in prayer and meditation.” On Thursday, May 7, communities across the Muskegon area will join thousands of gatherings nationwide for a day of unified prayer. The public is invited to participate.
Whitehall will be the site for one such gathering, a noon prayer rally at City Hall. Like another such event at Muskegon Heights City Hall, it will feature participation from local government officials, clergy, business leaders, and community members.
This year’s Day of Prayer theme, “Seeking Him in All Generations” (1 Chronicles 16:24), emphasizes unity across all ages as communities come together to pray for the nation, local leaders, and future generations.
“Noon gatherings at our city halls are especially meaningful,” organizers shared in a press release. “They take place at the very seats of local government, where we can pray for those entrusted with leadership—asking for wisdom, protection, integrity, and strength.”
The National Day of Prayer has deep roots in American history, from early gatherings of the nation’s founders to the annual Presidential Proclamation. Across all 50 states and U.S. territories, tens of thousands of people will participate in coordinated prayer events.
