Montague cat owners can get spay/neuter discounts through Big Lake Community Animal Clinic

Montague residents with cats that are not spayed or neutered can now get that important surgery for their pet at a significant discount through a partnership with the City of Montague and Big Lake Community Animal Clinic in Muskegon.
The City is offering a voucher to city residents which enables them to get 50% off the basic cost of spay or neuter surgery performed by veterinarians at the clinic. That brings the owner’s share down to $75 for spaying a female cat and $50 to neuter a male.
As part of this partnership, Big Lake Community Animal Clinic will also give each kitty that is part of the voucher program a free rabies vaccine.
This is the time of year when cats are likely to go into heat, so cat owners are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible. Spaying prevents unplanned litters of kittens, and that is especially important because cats can have as many as three litters a year.
Spaying and neutering cats also enables them to live longer, healthier lives by reducing and preventing certain infections and cancers. Spaying ends the life-threatening risks a female cat can face when she is pregnant, and neutering can reduce or stop male cats from wandering and spraying. Kittens are eligible to be spayed or neutered as soon as three months old.
To take part in the program, residents should first come to Montague City Hall to pick up the voucher, then call Big Lake Clinic to make an appointment for their cat. For more information about this program, call the City of Montague at 231-893-1155.
