Wondering what native plants are best for your Michigan garden? Wild Ones enthusiast Nancy Roggers will help gardeners learn about those choices Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. at the Muskegon Conservation District in Twin Lake. The event is sponsored by Wild Ones West Michigan Shore-to-Prairie chapter.
Roggers’ presentation will help gardeners understand which of Michigan’s beautiful native plants can replace non-native ornamentals. Native plants help restore soil and biodiversity. North America has lost nearly three billion birds in the past 50 years, in large part because of the loss of insects they rely on for food. Insect populations have dropped by more than 80 percent. Native gardens can begin to reverse this trend.
This event is free, and participants are encouraged to bring gardening questions for Wild Ones West Michigan Shore-to-Prairie specialists to answer during the program.
