Miles Harvey, author of an award-winning collection of short stories titled “The Registry of Forgotten Objects” will be at the Book Nook and Java Shop in Montague Wednesday, Aug. 6 to talk about his book.
This newest publication follows Harvey’s heralded book “The King of Confidence,” a true story about James Strang, the self-proclaimed king who briefly controlled one-fourth of Michigan from his post on Beaver Island.
“The Registry of Forgotten Objects” continues Harvey’s reputation as an excellent storyteller. Reviewers describe the fictional stories as “intricately spun,” “wry and heartbreaking,” and “astonishingly beautiful.” The book was awarded the 2023 Journal Non/Fiction Prize from Ohio State University Press and Best Work of Adult Fiction from the Society of Midland Authors.
This marks Harvey’s fourth book and his first venture into short-story fiction. The prolific writer teaches creative writing at DePaul University in Chicago and chairs the Department of English. He is also a founding editor of Big Shoulders Books, an innovative, nonprofit, social-justice publisher.
Harvey will be at the Book Nook at 6:30 p.m. for an informal meet-and-greet. His presentation will begin at 7 p.m. Both events are free and open to everyone.
This is the last author visit and book talk in the summer 2025 series sponsored by the Friends of the Montague Library, in partnership with the Book Nook and Java Shop.
