It was a big day for Shelby, Walkerville and Pentwater Saturday at the Oakridge Invitational, as the Tiger girls took first place in the Blue (small-school) division of the meet, a Wildcat runner broke 20 minutes for the first time, and Pentwater saw all five of its runners achieve season best times.
Shelby's girls team eked out the win over Algoma Christian, 30-34, in the race, with three Tigers finishing in the individual top five. Noel Parker led the way for Shelby, finishing second in a time of 21:17. Lydia Soelberg was fourth with a time of 22:06, and Kathryn Beyer was right behind her in fifth (22:08).
Also scoring for Shelby were Ava Lamberg in 17th place (25:59) and Michelle Peterson in 19th (26:34).
The Falcon girls had four runners, and Bailey Case finished sixth to lead the team, posting a time of 22:09. Lily Smith was 16th (25:55) and Maggie Jorissen finished 24th (28:24). Valerie Smith placed 25th and posted a career best time of 28:26.
Neither county boys team could score, but two Shelby boys placed in the top 10. Parker Weirich took second place in a time of 17:24, and Brycen Brown was sixth in a season best time of 17:50. Jaciel Moreno took 18th (19:30) and Jackson Sines was 34th (21:56) for Shelby.
Ethan Schamber ran the race for Walkerville and was 16th in a time of 19:15, his first time under 20 minutes, and Easton Flanery was 47th for the Wildcats (27:34). Ben Roberson placed 32nd for Pentwater and had a season best time of 21:21.
