HART — Whitehall placed fourth out of the nine competing schools Monday at the Hart Invitational, the first sporting event of the fall to take place in West Michigan.
The Vikings shot a 428, seven strokes behind third-place Coopersville and well clear of the rest of the field.
Returning state qualifier Riley Shafer shot an 82, placing second overall for the Vikings. Shafer bookended her round with double bogeys but did not shoot worse than a bogey on any of the 16 holes in between. Teammate Kelsie McClure joined her in the top five, finishing in fifth place with a 90. She made two birdies during her round.
The Vikings were without projected starters Ryleigh Hershey and Avarie Bentz for the meet due to other commitments. Avi Mussman shot a 116 and Miley Manzo added a 137 to round out scoring for the team.
