Pentwater boys basketball falls to Wellspring Prep in hard-fought battle

Pentwater lost a hard-fought contest to Wellspring Prep Monday, 50-48, when Wellspring tipped and stole a pass in the final seconds to hold off the Falcons.
"The game featured constant momentum swings, with neither team able to pull away as both sides traded baskets and defensive stops throughout the night," Pentwater coach Ashley Lubera said. "The Falcons stayed poised, defended well, and matched Wellspring’s physicality possession for possession."
Unfortunately for Pentwater (1-4), turnovers like the one on its last possession proved too much to overcome. The Falcons had 31 giveaways in the game.
Wyatt Roberts knocked down a big shot late in the game to keep the Falcons in it, and Brody Austin put in eight of his 13 points in the second half. He also had 12 rebounds.
Abram Kieda led the Falcons with 13 points as well, and grabbed 16 boards. Jacobo Martin chipped in eight points and had five steals.
"Despite strong execution in many areas, a few key miscues. especially late, gave Wellspring just enough of an edge in a game where every possession mattered," Lubera said. "Still, the effort, resilience, and competitiveness shown by the Falcons all night were undeniable."
