Whitehall defeated Montague Wednesday, 54-27, as part of a 2-0 night at the Orchard View Quad Wednesday.
The Vikings also defeated Oakridge 78-3. Montague edged Orchard View in its other match, 48-39.
Whitehall raced to an early 36-0 lead on Montague with its edge at
the lower weights. Montague won the next three bouts, but Whitehall was
able to pull away for the victory. The Oakridge win was buoyed by several forfeit wins as the Eagles did not have a full lineup.
Many
Vikings went 2-0 on the night, led by two-pin showings from Liam Leeke,
Billy Darke and Colten Kyser. Teammates Robert Belinger, Blake Wallace,
Dom Zygmuntowski, Isaac O'Boyle and Tommy Leeke each won a match by pin
and their other match by forfeit.
Montague's 2-0 wrestlers were Gavyn Maddox, Fletcher Thommen, Kaiden Jeffery, Kaden French, Isaac French and Maverick Osborne.
"Being
short-handed due to some injuries and other activities tonight, we
had to get a little creative to try and fill some holes in the lineup,"
Montague coach Kris Maddox said. "Against Whitehall we were
competitive, and against OV we had some selfless guys move around. As a
result we were able to win the dual. Michael Jones moved up a weight
and wrestled a great match against Darius Flowers of OV. He lost the
match but put the team first."
