Shelby played very well Tuesday night against West Michigan
Conference Rivers leader North Muskegon, falling just short of an upset
in a 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-23 battle.
The Tigers could have
moved into a first-place tie in the conference with a win, but coach
McKenna Peters was pleased with the way her team played.
"I thought the girls played a great game of volleyball," Peters said. "North
Muskegon is a strong team across the board, but I was proud of how our
girls competed and battled through all four sets."
Peters said
the Tigers entered the match hoping to be aggressive on offense, and
the strategy worked, as Brylee Friedman hit for a .212 average and had a
team-best 11 kills. Briar Peters added seven kills and led the defense
with 17 digs.
"Both of our outside hitters had strong
all-around performances," Peters said. "Their consistency on both
offense and defense has been a huge
asset for our team."
Peyton Rapes had 25 assists from the
setter spot, and Peters praised the sophomore for playing intelligent
volleyball throughout the season.
"She works incredibly hard to get to every second ball, and because of
that effort, the team has developed a lot of trust in her to run our
offense," Peters said. "She's shown some tremendous growth this season, and has gained a
lot of confidence in her role."
Briar Peters had four aces
for the team, with Hali Hayes and Kylie Brown adding two each. Friedman
had 14 digs, and Rapes chipped in 13.
