Whitehall finished in third place out of 14 schools Friday at the Ludington Invitational, shooting a 373 for the best score among schools in Divisions 3 or 4.
The Vikings finished behind only a pair of D-2 schools, Forest Hills Central and Grand Rapids Christian. Montague sent four freshmen north to compete in the meet, with the group placing 11th.
Two Whitehall players earned top-10 individual finishes, led by Riley Shafer with a sixth-place finish and score of 86. Shafer made an eagle on the par-5 11th hole and added a birdie during her round. Avarie Bentz placed ninth and shot a 92.
Also for the Vikes, Ryleigh Hershey shot a 96 and Kelsie McClure posted a 99.
The Wildcats saw an exciting performance from their young players, three of whom shot 18-hole personal bests, led by Hazel Grice. Grice shot a 100, the second-lowest PR score by a freshman in program history. Brayella Bultema shot a 109, and Lauren Peterson (110) and Vera Mott (125) also contributed to the team score.
"We couldn’t be more excited about the years ahead for this group," Montague coach Phil Kerr said in a social media post. "They’ve already accomplished a lot in their first season."
