Shelby fought hard to come from behind and score a big win over
Manistee Tuesday night in its West Michigan Conference Rivers opener,
25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-10.
"I’m really proud of the
fight this group of girls continues to show," Shelby coach McKenna
Peters said. "We’ve seen it multiple times this season as they’ve
battled back from
being down and found ways to win some tough matches. They are a
determined group, and I’ve really enjoyed watching them compete,
challenge themselves, and push through difficult situations."
Briar
Peters had a big night for Shelby (5-4, 1-0 WMC Rivers), with team
bests in kills (16) and aces (eight) as well as 17 digs.
Annabelle
Stark had 22 digs, tying a career high, and Emma Stovall added 21.
Coach Peters was very pleased with both their efforts, noting that
Stovall missed last season with injuries before taking the libero
position this fall.
"(Stovall) has returned ready to lead the back row," Peters said. "She played a strong defensive game.
"Annabelle Stark has also done a great job taking on a new role this
season. While she has always been a powerful hitter, one of her biggest
areas of growth has been her back-row play. That growth was on display."
Also for the Tigers, Peyton Rapes had 23 assists and Izzy Rudat recorded four blocks.
