Neither Pentwater nor Walkerville was able to post a team score at
Wednesday's first West Michigan D League jamboree of the season in
Marion, but Falcons' coach Erika Fatura gave runners extra credit for
putting in the effort on a hot day.
"In conditions like these,
simply finishing the race is an accomplishment, and our Falcons showed
some serious grit," Fatura said.
Falcon senior Bailey Case
earned the team's best finish, coming in fourth place in a time of
24:41.3. Aso for the Falcon girls, Lily Smith was 20th (29:22.8), Maggie
Jorissen was 29th (38:55.4) and Valerie Smith placed 32nd (41:07.7).
Walkerville
freshman Ethan Schamber was the county's top boys finisher in the race,
placing 11th with a time of 20:32.9. Pentwater's Ben Roberson was 44th
(28:18.6). Two more Wildcats, Easton Flanery (46th, 30:14.5) and Easton
Wolgamott (50th, 34:44.6), also finished the race.
"Cross-country isn’t always easy, especially on days like today, but
pushing through the hard days makes the accomplishments that much more
rewarding," Fatura said.
