Another outstanding effort by Reeths-Puffer star Sophia McCollum
helped the Rockets stay close with first-place Byron Center at
Wednesday's Byron Center jamboree.
The Rockets' team score of
174 was only five strokes behind the Bulldogs', and beat its previous
best score at the Railside Golf Course by 18 strokes, but the story was
McCollum, who tied her career best nine-hole score by going three under
par with a 34. She knocked in three straight birdies to end her round
after making par on her first six holes.
“Sophia continues to impress," R-P coach Matt Pallett said. "She is never satisfied. She works hard to stay on top.”
Ella
Voorhies also tied her career best nine-hole score and shot a 44,
including a birdie during the round. Olivia Ambler shot a 46 and
Kayleigh Brown shot a 50 to round out Rocket scoring.
“I am very happy for and proud of Ella Voorhies," Pallett said. "She had some swing
issues and put the time in at practice to work through those. It paid
off for her today as she had a great day.”
