La Fiesta restaurant has been a popular place to eat and an important business anchor in Hart for nearly four decades. More than just a building, this restaurant represents one family's legacy that has spanned generations.
After working 35 years for other people, Fabian Vasquez Sr., along with his wife Maria Guadalupe, made the bold move to open La Fiesta as their own business. Vasquez, who is now 86, had begun working at the tender age of six in a migrant family, learning to live with poverty and adversity, foregoing education to help support his family. Since opening the restaurant 39 years ago, he has dedicated himself to preserving the restaurant for his children and grandchildren. He even carried it forward after his wife passed away in May 2025.
Recent hurdles have put his legacy at risk, and the family is looking to the community for support. Vasquez suffered a serious heart attack, had double bypass open heart surgery and is facing additional health issues. Medical expenses are piling up and paying the restaurant’s bills and keeping the business open have become formidable challenges.
His daughter Lisa Vasquez said, “My dad told me his wish is to simply live long enough to pay for the building and make it to 40 years in business. As his daughter…I refuse to give up! That is why I am turning to this loving community for support.”
The Vasquez family invites all to join them Sunday, Oct. 4, for a Pancake Breakfast benefit at La Fiesta, 12 S. State St. in Hart, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will include a silent auction, a bake sale and donation information. All proceeds will go toward Vasquez’s medical bills and keeping the restaurant open.
“No matter what happens, I need to know we tried. I think we owe it to him and my late mother,” Lisa shared. “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and support throughout the years.”
