Hart cross teams each finish 2nd at MSU Invitational

Hart's boys team again showed off its bona fides as a state championship contender Friday, earning a second-place finish in the Divisions 3-4 race at the Michigan State Spartan Invitational.
Hart's score of 76 was only seven points behind Hanover-Horton for the top spot. The Pirate girls also finished second in their race, edging several schools to earn runner-up position behind powerhouse Lumen Christi.
The Pirate boys' depth carried them once again, as all five of their scorers placed in the top 30 of a race that included 290 finishers.
Silas Ackley paced Hart, coming in sixth place overall with a time of 17:00.7, and Timothy Wolff also earned a top-10 finish, coming in ninth (17:08.2). Carson Ackley finished 14th and had a time of 17:19.7. Owen VanderVlucht was 24th (17:39.3), and Mason Opalewski (28th, 17:47.2) rounded out the Pirates' scoring, followed closely by Trevor Vander Kodde and Grant Ackley, who were 30th and 31st respectively.
Natalie Rosema set the pace for Hart's girls, finishing 12th in a time of 20:45.6. Alaina Schaner (21:51.9) and Luisa VanderZwaag (22:01.2) were 29th and 31st respectively in the race. Bryn Riley (23:05.2) finished 48th, and Viviana VanAgtmael placed 139th (25:59.1).
