Pleasant Afternoon planned at Mears Museum Complex on August 16

Mears invites the community to celebrate 250 years of the United States of America as well as more than 50 years since the opening of the Swift Lathers Complex at this year's Pleasant Afternoon. The event will take place on Mears Street off of Fox Road in downtown Mears on Sunday, August 16, from 1-4 p.m.
Attendees can tour all eight of Complex's buildings, which include the Swift Lathers home and garage, the Robinson Exhibit, the Family Cabin, the Swedish Church, the Lathers Transportation Museum, Old Town Hall, Trapper Ralph's Cabin and the new Agricultural Barn. All are invited to come out and enjoy a piece of cake, cookies, and don’t forget a drink while listening to local band, The String A Longs. One may also want to grab a free copy of the original Mears Newz available at Open Hearth Grille, The Golden Eatery and the Oceana County Historical & Genealogical Society.
Volunteers are also appreciated to keep the buildings open. If anyone has time to help, contact the Chadwick-Munger House at (231) 873-2600.
If one would like to make a donation to help complete the Swift Lathers Complex, please stop by and donate in person. The Society is looking to add a schoolhouse, a post office and a train station. They already have the furnishings for each and are in need of the buildings.
