An 11-year-old boy was killed Thursday, July 23, at the Owasippe Scout Reservation in Twin Lake when a tree limb fell on him, according to several media reports.
The boy was reportedly from the River Forest area of Lansing. His name had not been released at press time.
Reports indicated that first responders were called to the scene, which was in the Camp Blackhawk area of the reservation, just after 5 p.m. CPR was attempted for 35 minutes before responders determined the boy had passed away and a call was made for the medical examiner.
It's the second year in a row a child has died at the camp; last summer, a 15-year-old counselor in training passed away in a drowning accident.
