Playhouse summer theatre festival continues in July, August

The Playhouse at White Lake will continue its summer theatre festival in July after taking the July 4 weekend off.
The festival will resume with the all-female version of “The Odd Couple,” a well-known comedy by playwright Neil Simon, running the new schedule of two evening and two matinee performances between the dates of July 10-12.
Avid music lovers will then appreciate the return of the White Lake Walk the Beat, with free music at the Playhouse and across over a dozen venues from 1-5 p.m. Saturday, July 18, followed by the White Lake Music Society family, matinee, free with the children’s classical concert, The Story of Babar the Elephant and Paddington Bear’s First Concert Sunday, July 19.
July also brings a brand new original play written by Playhouse Managing Director, Beth Beaman, HERstory of Animation: A Musical Celebration, featuring the untold stories of the earliest female illustrators, running the weekends of July 24 and Aug. 2 as a continued partnership with the Muskegon Museum of Art exhibition of the same title. Patrons are encouraged to visit the museum as part of this exciting creative collaboration.
Finally, the hit musical Always, Patsy Cline chronicles the deep friendship between Patsy and a longtime fan and friend, which continued through the years of Patsy’s early career even as Cline’s fame skyrocketed. Cline is played by Playhouse Musical Arts teacher Shelby Mason. That musical is sure to sell out, so early ticket sales are encouraged with box office opportunities at the door of seats remain, and it will run for two weekends, closing out the festival Aug. 7-16.
In addition to extending their traditional season length, the Playhouse has added double matinees with reduced pricing and Pay What You Can options for at least one show of every offering. Discounted flex-pass season tickets allow for more entertainment at a lower price, when purchased in bulk and both passes. Individual tickets are available at theplayhouseatwhitelake.org as well as at the City of Whitehall offices.
