Dance PlayHouse, West Michigan's newest professional dance company, is hosting Motion Makers Choreography Camp for children ages 8-11 on Mondays from June 22 through July 13 from 12-1 p.m. at The Playhouse at White Lake.
This camp is part of Dance PlayHouse’s initiative to amplify young voices in West Michigan through the arts.
Kelsey Lee, founder and executive director of Dance PlayHouse, said in a press release, “So often, kids are told what to do and when to do it. Motion Makers is an opportunity for children to gain new tools to express themselves, which supports their mental health by empowering them to share their ideas and celebrate their individual identities. Having recently relocated our organization to Muskegon from Grand Haven, this camp also kicks off our educational offerings in the area."
Under professional guidance of Dance Playhouse company members, participants will explore the inner workings of creating an original piece of movement designed on their bodies, for their bodies. From selecting the music to defining the storyline, the creative choices belong entirely to the performers. The four-week session culminates in a showcase where these self-created works are premiered for an audience.
