It was a big night for local squads Tuesday at the West Michigan
All-Star meet, which took place in Fruitport this year, but no win was
bigger than that of Whitehall senior Caden Bowyer, who broke the
Vikings' 20-year-old school record in shot put.
Bowyer also
won the event with a spectacular throw of 166-4, surpassing the previous
mark of 163-0 set by Ryan VanBergen in 2006.
He wasn't the
only local athlete to set a school record, either, as Mason Darke of
Reeths-Puffer broke his own mark in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of
38.03 seconds, which also earned him first place in the meet.
Whitehall's
Aaliyah Jamison picked up a win in the girls' shot put with a mark of
34-5.5, and Evan McHugh of Reeths-Puffer set a personal best of 14-0 to
win the boys' pole vault. Montague's Addi Smith made sure the Wildcats
got to the top of the podium, too, winning the girls' pole vault with a
mark of 9-0. She also took sixth place in the 400-meter dash (1:05.4).
The
Vikings picked up several other top-6 finisher medals at the All-Star
meet. For the boys, Cole Essebaggers placed third in the long jump with a
leap of 20-6.75, and Bowyer added a fifth-place finish in shot put with
a mark of 48-6.5. Tim Vieira set a personal best of 23.03 seconds to
take sixth in the 200-meter dash.
Carrianna Gibbons set her
second personal best in shot put in the span of a week for the Whitehall
girls, finishing in sixth (31-8).
McHugh picked up a second
medal for the R-P boys, placing third in the 110 hurdles (15.56). Marvin
Moore took third in the 200 (22.79), followed by teammate Ethan
Rolewicz, who was fourth and set a personal best (22.80). Jamichael
Williams placed fourth in high jump (6-0), and the 800 relay team of
Tanner Nash, Landon Howland, Tyler Sykes and Londyn Howland placed
fourth (1:36.3).
Jersi Bilek topped Rocket girls medalists,
placing third in the 800 (2:20.9). Addison Mitchelson took fourth in the
100 (13.01) and sixth in the 200 (26.98). Zaire Wright was fifth in the
shot put (32-1.5) and Makayla Disselkoen was sixth in the high jump
(4-10). The 800 relay team of Darcy Keefe, Mattie Kemp, Rhylie McBride
and Alyssa Hillin finished sixth (1:57.0).
For Montague, Isaac
French took second place in shot put (53-9), and Wesley Mair set a
personal best to take third in the 3,200 (10:19.5). Gabby Dietz and
Annelyse Schneider tied for sixth place in the high jump (4-10).
