Whitehall swept Big Rapids Monday in a non-conference doubleheader, 9-7 and 18-3.
The
Vikings (12-19) held off the Cardinals in the first game after scoring
nine runs in the first three innings to lead 9-2. Big Rapids scored the
final five runs, but Beth LeaTrea allowed only two baserunners in the
last two innings to secure the win.
Toree Carlson got two hits
for Whitehall in game one, and Kayden Johnson drove in three runs.
LeaTrea gave up three hits and struck out nine to get the win.
It
was all Whitehall in game two, as the Vikes broke open a 2-2 game in
the second inning with five runs, then added six more in the third and
five in the fourth to end the game by mercy rule.
Janie Fagan
mashed a grand slam in the third inning to spearhead the Whitehall
attack. She had three hits and seven RBI in all in the game, scoring
four times.
Also for Whitehall, Emily Ames got three hits and
had three RBI in game two. LeaTrea, Johnson and Ryleigh Smith got two
hits apiece. LeaTrea again got the win in the circle, allowing no earned
runs on three hits and striking out six.
