Whitehall baseball wins one close game, one rout in sweep of Oakridge

Whitehall eked out a 1-0 victory over Oakridge Tuesday in West Michigan Conference Rivers play, then secured a sweep with a 17-3 win in game two.
Jaxon Kulesza scored the only run of game one on a passed ball with two outs in the fifth inning, and Whitehall hung on for the win when Emmet Hecht caught a line drive at second base and doubled an Eagle baserunner off to end the game.
Brayden Kelley got the win with terrific work on the mound. Kelley pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out three. The Vikings got three hits as a team, and Cody Manzo and Evan Thomas each drew a walk in addition to getting a hit.
Whitehall's offense came to life in the nightcap, scoring in all five innings, including a five-run explosion in the first. Noah Peterson had a RBI single and Kelley had a RBI double in the inning.
Manzo and Jakobe Monroe got three hits each in the win, and Manzo scored five times. Kelley and Justin Jensen got two hits apiece. Evan Thomas got the win, striking out eight and allowing four hits in five innings.
