Whitehall eked out a 1-0 victory over Oakridge Tuesday in West
Michigan Conference Rivers play, then secured a sweep with a 17-3 win in
game two.
Jaxon Kulesza scored the only run of game one on a
passed ball with two outs in the fifth inning, and Whitehall hung on for
the win when Emmet Hecht caught a line drive at second base and doubled
an Eagle baserunner off to end the game.
Brayden Kelley got
the win with terrific work on the mound. Kelley pitched a five-hit
shutout and struck out three. The Vikings got three hits as a team, and
Cody Manzo and Evan Thomas each drew a walk in addition to getting a
hit.
Whitehall's offense came to life in the nightcap, scoring
in all five innings, including a five-run explosion in the first. Noah
Peterson had a RBI single and Kelley had a RBI double in the inning.
Manzo
and Jakobe Monroe got three hits each in the win, and Manzo scored five
times. Kelley and Justin Jensen got two hits apiece. Evan Thomas got
the win, striking out eight and allowing four hits in five innings.
