Whtiehall bounced back from a close game one loss to Fremont Thursday to dominate game two in an 11-0 rout, salvaging a split.
The
Vikings couldn't hold a 3-2 lead in the opener, and Fremont scored the
tying run in the seventh inning on a hit batter with the bases loaded.
The Packers brought the winning run across in the eighth on a wild
pitch.
Emmet Hecht had two hits in the game for Whitehall,
including a double, and Ethan Deshong drove in two runs. Brayden Kelley
took a tough-luck loss, allowing only two earned runs in 7 2/3 innings,
with eight strikeouts.
Game two was much friendlier to the
Vikings, who piled up eight runs in the second inning to break the game
open and won in five by the mercy rule. Deshong, Cody Manzo and Justin
Jensen had run-scoring hits in the pivotal inning. Manzo and Jensen each
got two hits in the game, and Manzo scored three runs. Hecht drove in
two runs. Evan Thomas pitched the five-inning shutout, striking out
seven and allowing three hits.
