Whitehall reached the finals of Saturday's Grant tournament by
defeating NorthPointe Christian 12-6, but fell to the host Tigers 11-0
in the championship game.
The Viking bats were hot early
against NorthPointe, scoring twice in the first inning and five times in
the second. The Mustangs attempted a comeback later in the game, but
never got closer than three runs.
Evan Thomas had a RBI single
for Whitehall in the first inning, and Cody Manzo ripped a two-run
triple in the second. Justin Jensen and Noah Peterson added run-scoring
singles to help fuel the five-run outburst.
For the game,
Manzo had three hits, and Thomas and Peterson had two each. Jensen
picked up the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing seven
hits in five innings.
Whitehall lost to Grant 11-0 in the
title game, allowing six second-inning runs. Manzo led the Viking
offense, collecting two of the team's five hits.
