Although Whitehall took a 12-6 defeat to Fruitport Thursday, the
day wasn't without positives for the Vikings, who had as much offensive
success as most any Trojan opponent so far.
Fruitport, for
which the win was its third straight and fifth in six games, has only
allowed two opponents this season to score more than the six runs the
Vikings managed in the game.
Whitehall scored six straight
runs over three innings to take a 6-5 lead in the third, but the Trojans
responded with a three-run fourth and never looked back.
Fruitport
went ahead 5-0 before the Vikes began chipping away at the lead with a
first-inning RBI double from Justin Jensen. Taking advantage of a couple
of Trojan miscues, Whitehall added three runs in the second to make it
5-4, and in the third, Noah Peterson and Ethan Deshong each collected
run-scoring hits to give the Vikes the lead.
From there, though, Fruitport pitching solved Whitehall and the Vikings could do little the rest of the way.
Peterson had two hits, and Deshong drove in two runs for Whitehall.
