Whitehall won a 10-inning thriller over Shelby Wednesday to cap a
doubleheader sweep of the West Michigan Conference Rivers co-champions.
The
Vikings won the second game 7-6, recovering from Shelby's rally to tie
the game at 5-5, then answering the Tigers' eighth-inning run. Noah
Peterson delivered a RBI single in the 10th to win it, scoring Jaxon
Kulesza after he was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Cody
Manzo had a clutch eighth-inning RBI single with two outs to extend the
game after Shelby scored in the top of the eighth. Ethan Deshong led
off that inning with a walk.
Manzo had two hits in the win,
and Justin Jensen led the way with three, scoring three times. Evan
Thomas delivered impressive work, allowing two earned runs in 7 1/3
innings while striking out six, and Emmett Hecht pitched 1 2/3 shutout
innings and fanned four.
Whitehall won game one 8-2, taking
the lead for good by scoring five times in the third. A barrage of
singles propelled the inning forward, including RBI singles by Thomas
and Peterson. Noah Morse had two hits and Jensen doubled and drove in
two runs. Brayden Kelley picked up the win, allowing six hits and two
runs while striking out seven.
