Whitehall baseball caps sweep of Shelby with 10-inning thriller

Whitehall won a 10-inning thriller over Shelby Wednesday to cap a doubleheader sweep of the West Michigan Conference Rivers co-champions.
The Vikings won the second game 7-6, recovering from Shelby's rally to tie the game at 5-5, then answering the Tigers' eighth-inning run. Noah Peterson delivered a RBI single in the 10th to win it, scoring Jaxon Kulesza after he was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Cody Manzo had a clutch eighth-inning RBI single with two outs to extend the game after Shelby scored in the top of the eighth. Ethan Deshong led off that inning with a walk.
Manzo had two hits in the win, and Justin Jensen led the way with three, scoring three times. Evan Thomas delivered impressive work, allowing two earned runs in 7 1/3 innings while striking out six, and Emmett Hecht pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings and fanned four.
Whitehall won game one 8-2, taking the lead for good by scoring five times in the third. A barrage of singles propelled the inning forward, including RBI singles by Thomas and Peterson. Noah Morse had two hits and Jensen doubled and drove in two runs. Brayden Kelley picked up the win, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven.
