Reeths-Puffer tennis gets better of Whitehall in area showdown

In an area battle Thursday, Reeths-Puffer got the best of Whitehall, 6-2, in a dual meet that featured a few close matches.
Two of the matches went to three sets, with each team winning one of them. At No. 2 singles, Akeelah Martin of Whitehall edged Reeths-Puffer's Hope Latsch, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8, and the No. 3 doubles match saw R-P's Brylee Gifford/Elisa Howard pull off an equally dramatic win over the Vikings' Emily VanDam/Bea Lewis, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
R-P won all four doubles matches. Ava Dietz/Makayla Smith, Jayla Brink/Kayleigh Brown and Lauren Slater/Grace Cosens picked up wins in doubles play.
On the singles side of the ledger, Riley Shafer won another close match at No. 3 singles over Molly Matz, 6-4, 7-5 to give Whitehall its second win. Rocket singles players Olivia Smith and Kaitlyn Durow each got straight-set wins.
