MUSKEGON — Reeths-Puffer won a pair of games at its home round
robin tournament Saturday, edging Spring Lake 3-2 and defeating East
Kentwood 10-5.
The Rockets (23-7) took advantage of a Spring
Lake error to score the winning run in the sixth inning. The miscue
scored Tessa Ross, who led off the inning with a single.
Ross
also had a first-inning RBI double in the win, and Lorelei Herrygers
brought in a run with a sacrifice bunt in the third. Ross led the
offense with a 3-for-3 performance. Makayla Jewett picked up the win,
striking out six and allowing one earned run on eight hits.
Reeths-Puffer's Lorelei Herrygers (7) races to first as Jaycie Gasper reels in a throw at first base during Saturday's round robin tournament at R-P. The Rockets beat both East Kentwood and Spring Lake.
Game
two looked to be headed to the wire too when the Rockets went to bat in
the fourth with the score tied 1-1. But the R-P bats exploded for eight
runs, taking command of the game. Emma Wagbo started the barrage with a
two-run triple, and a few batters later Madi Reichert rapped a RBI
single, followed by Herrygers' two-run single. Carlie Guikema added a
RBI double later in the inning.
Each of the Rockets' top six
hitters in the batting order had multiple hits, with Ross and Guikema
each collecting three. Lainey McDaniel, Reichert, Herrygers, Kenzie
Jacobs and Wagbo added two each. McDaniel got the win, compiling 13
strikeouts and allowing two earned runs on four hits.
