Reeths-Puffer baseball blanks Muskegon in district opener

Reeths-Puffer blanked Muskegon Tuesday in a pre-district matchup, 18-0, to advance to the district semifinals Saturday.
The Rockets (10-15-1) will face Greenville in the semifinals Saturday at approximately noon at its home field, with the finals to follow.
R-P was never threatened in the game, piling up eight first-inning runs and sending three pitchers to the mound to team up for a three-inning no-hitter, with the Big Reds only reaching via a hit batter.
The Rockets' first two batters walked and scored on Muskegon miscues in the field, and Brendan Guikema laced a RBI double to make it 3-0. Later in the inning, Connor McManus mashed a RBI triple and Tyler Sykes had a RBI double. Jack Yonkman collected a RBI single to cap the explosion.
For the game, Guikema went 3-for-3 with three RBI, and Jaxon Lee and Ethan Frang each got two hits. Sykes and Yonkman each walked twice and got a hit.
On the mound, the Rockets recorded all nine outs by strikeout. Sykes, Yonkman and Guikema each pitched an inning in the win.
