MONTAGUE — Montague came up short to a red-hot Shelby team Thursday
in a cross-division West Michigan Conference doubleheader, 18-0 and
13-1.
The Wildcats couldn't get any baserunners on against
Tiger ace Jayna Burmeister in game one, as Burmeister threw a
four-inning perfect game. Six Montague errors led to 16 of the 18 runs
being unearned. Montague pitching held the Tigers to five runs through
the first three innings before the Tigers exploded for 13 in the fourth.
Montague
manufactured a run in the first inning of game two when Kealyn Lohman
walked, reached third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch. That
cut an early Shelby lead to 2-1, but the Tigers later pulled away.
Alanna
Hysell got Montague's only hit in game two, a single. The 'Cats went on
to load the bases in the inning with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, but
couldn't get any more runs across the plate.
