Montague roared to an easy doubleheader sweep of Western Michigan
Christian Thursday, winning both games by mercy rule, 17-2 and 12-2.
The
'Cats (18-3) ripped off five runs in the first inning of game one and
10 in the second on the way to a three-inning triumph. Fletcher Thommen
led the onslaught with three hits and four RBI, and Caleb Rice also had
three hits, with two RBI. Dylan Bailey got two hits and drove in three
runs, and Cooper Bradley had two hits, including a double, and scored
three times. Rice picked up the win on the mound, striking out four.
The
Warriors briefly grabbed a 2-1 lead in the third inning of game two,
but Montague came back with three runs in the bottom of the third, then
piled up seven in the fourth and won the game in five. Rice, Tyson
Schattenberg and Cole Moss each got two hits as the Wildcats got some of
their reserves ample time on the field in the nightcap. Chase Kurtzhal
drove in two runs. Remi Lohman got the win, allowing one earned run on
two hits in four innings and striking out five.
