Montague baseball shuts down Orchard View, secures share of WMC Lakes title

Montague secured a share of the West Michigan Conference Lakes title Tuesday, blanking Orchard View twice in a lopsided doubleheader, 11-0 and 16-0.
Ludington swept Oakridge Tuesday to win its share of the title alongside the Wildcats.
The Wildcats (22-5, 11-1 WMC Lakes) did not allow a single hit all night and also played errorless defense. Thanks to his team not eclipsing double digits in runs until the seventh inning, Eli Petersen was able to pitch a full seven-inning no-hitter in game one, while Cole Herremans was limited a three-inning no-hitter in the nightcap
Petersen overwhelmed Cardinal hitters, getting 16 of his 21 outs by strikeout. He walked only one batter and needed only 84 pitches to complete his gem.
Karter Johnson, Cole Moss and Cooper Bradley each got two hits for the Wildcats in the opening win. Moss and Johnson each scored twice, as did Caleb Rice. Levi Auger had three RBI.
The 'Cats piled up 12 second-inning runs in game two to lock up the sweep. Petersen had a RBI double in the second, and Moss ripped a bases-clearing three-run double in the inning too. Eli Pendell drove in runs in two different at-bats in the same inning.
Pendell and Petersen had two hits each, and Moss scored three times. Herremans struck out seven and walked one.
